There are certain basic tools that we feel every home should have at their disposal. We’ve tried to give you a sampling of those, plus tools that are more specialized for plumbing projects.

1. Tape Measure – one of the most basic tools a home needs, a must have for your arsenal
2. Hammer – enough said?
3. Flashlight – every home should have at least one
4. Screwdrivers – both flathead & phillips
5. Pliers – most common type with blunt end
6. Level – doesn’t need to be fancy, something small to fit in your toolbox is fine
7. Utility Knife – an inexpensive, but very convenient cutting tool

Tools specifically for dealing with plumbing clogs:
Plunger – a must have for emergency clogs
Hand Auger: when a plunger just isn’t enough, this plumber’s snake could be your next step
Closet Augur – this tool is used specifically for stubborn toilet clogs

If you are considering a project that requires a bit more plumbing knowledge, here’s a few tools you’re going to want to have on hand.
1. Tongue and Groove Pliers – often referred to as Channellocks
2. Adjustable Wrench – used to grip hex nuts on plumbing
3. Hacksaw – versatile for cutting through pipe, as well as hardware and screws that get in the way
4. Basin Wrench: used in that small hard to reach area behind a sink
5. Two Pipe Wrenches: one for gripping and one for turning those pipes that you need to loosen
6. Tubing Cutter – cutting copper pipe
7. Propane torch – used for copper pipe projects
