Fixing a Clogged Kitchen SinkThe kitchen is the heart of most homes, and a clogged kitchen sink can bring your family’s fun and relaxation to a complete stop. Here’s a few suggestion on what to try before reaching for the phone to call your neighborhood plumber.

How Do I Unclog My Kitchen Sink?

Clear the Sink. If you have dishes sitting in your sink, you’ll want to move them to make room to work. A clogged drain is bad enough, but not having any room to work with will just make things worse. But wait, did you remember to give the garbage disposal a chance to do its job? Sometimes the easiest solution really does work.

Get the Plunger. This is the first thing most of us reach for when we have a clogged drain. A plunger is a “must have” for every home because it is the easiest and fastest way to get rid of small clogs.

Baking Soda & Vinegar. If the plunger didn’t work, now its time to try a different approach. Remove any standing water you have in the sink. Then, pour 1 cup of baking soda followed by 1 cup of vinegar. You should see a bubbling reaction. When that’s subsided, put a stopper in the drain and then try running hot water. This might take a couple of tries to be sure if it will work or not on your clog.

P-trap. Open up the cabinet doors under your sink and look for your sink pipe. You’ll probably need to move the items you have stored under there to get access to it. Place a bucket under the curved section of the drain pipe. Then remove the nuts and loosen the P-trap ring. Let any water or debris fall into the bucket. See anything else in there that could be causing your clog?: Reassemble the P-trap and pipe and try running water through it.
