Dripping Compression FaucetDrip… Drip… Drop… Drip… Drip… Drop … Is that the sound you listen to while trying to go to sleep at night in Lake Charles? Does it lull you to into dreamland or keep you awake at night? If you’ve decided to try your hand at fixing your dripping faucet, here are a few tips to make it easier.

What Kind of Faucet is Do You Have?

The most common types of faucet are these 4: Compression, Ceramic, Cartridge and Ball.

A compression faucet is the most basic type and that’s what this blog will be focused on. It will have 2 handles, one for hot and one for cold.

What are the Steps to Fix a Dripping Compression Faucet?

1. Turn off the water to the sink
2. Cover the sink dranage with a stopper or towel. The last thing you need is for small parts to accidentally go down the drain.
3. Next, pry off each cap and unscrew the handles. The nut should be visible now.
4. Use a wrench to remove the nut and pull out the stem. You should now be able to see the O-ring and washer. Remove the washer.
5. Take the old, worn out washer to a nearby home improvement store to match the size. You’ll need plumbers grease to install the new one.
6. Armed with your new purchases, coat the new washer with plumbers grease and replace onto the stem. Then reverse your steps and put your faucet back together.
7. Ready to give it a try? Turn your water back on, unstop your sink drain and give each a handle a test run. How did you do?
