I’m sure you’ve heard the horror stories about low flow toilets when they first came on the scene. Let’s not get graphic, but all the poo wasn’t going away. Nobody wants that to happen!

Today low flow toilets can do the job that its predecessors couldn’t. We rely on them to not only save water, but also provide the flushing power that we all need in Lake Charles, LA.

water leavesLow Flow History

In the “good old days” conservation did not extend to things like water. At least not until the 1990s when water conservation became a national priority and laws were changed to only allow toilets to use 1.6 gallons of water per flush. Compare that to the 7 gallons of water that everyone had taken for granted.

As you might guess, the efficiency of the toilet took a back seat to conserving water, and homeowners were left blaming their low flow toilets for not working correctly. Suddenly homeowners missed their 7 gallon water guzzling model.

Gravity Assistance

Most toilets today continue to use gravity as the main source of power. The difference is that toilet manufacturers have had the time to reevaluate what will give the toilet the most flushing ability, while using only the 1.6 gallons of water per flush. They’ve come a long way!

Pressure Assistance

Pressure-assisted toilets, a more advanced toilet, are now available. This uses pressurized air in the tank to give the mere 1.6 gallons of water more power. These tend to be noisier, but more power usually always does.

Dual Flush

Australia has taken water conservation to a new level with its use of the dual-flush toilet. One button is only for liquid waste and uses only .8 gallons of water. The other button uses the full force of its 1.6 gallons of water and flushes away everything else. These toilets are now available in the USA.
