Water pressure affects our lives more than we realize. It can affect the amount of time cleaning our clothes and dishes require when waiting to fill up, wash, and rinse. It can make the difference between a mediocre shower and an exhilarating one.

If you are starting to wonder why your water pressure is faltering, here’s a few things to check before giving us a call.

Whole House or Single Room?

Low water pressure can be an annoying issue. Have you taken the time to determine if it is affecting your whole house, or is it just affecting one room? Sometimes low water pressure may be affecting only one place, such as the shower in the master bedroom. If that is the case, then you’ve narrowed down your problem immensely. It might be as simple as cleaning your showerhead.

Recent Neighborhood Work
The first shut-off valve that affects the water coming into your home is controlled by your town/city. If you have had recent work done in or around that area it may have not been completely opened back up. This will affect the water made available to your home.

Your Home’s Main Water Access
Every home has its own main water shut-valve to use during either a time of emergency or when planning a major home project that requires water to be turned on and off. It is usually located in the basement or garage somewhere near your water meter. Is it completely open?

Regulator
Some homes are equipped with a Pressure Regular. Its job is exactly what you might imagine it to be. It regulates the water pressure coming into your home to protect your plumbing system from sudden increases in pressure.
If you have noticed a sharp increase or decline of water pressure, you may have a faulty Pressure Regular Valve. If that is the case, we suggest giving us a call to schedule replacement.

Re-Piping
Over time your plumbing system may have built up years and years of lime deposits and corrosion. This may be restricting to the space in the pipes that is available for water to freely move through.

The last thing most homeowner wants to find out is that their plumbing system will need to be replaced. Before you fear the worst, give us a call. We will explore all the options with you and suggest the most cost-effective way to restore your water pressure.
